Here's the deal. 1992 240 @ 175k. Odometer goes out. OK, so its the 25 tooth gear. Change the gear. After several reinstalls the odometer finally works (took a while to find the broken teeth that were hidden in the gear mechanism). Good, all done. No, then the clock starts to run slow. Seems intermittent. Sometimes OK for a while, then loses 5 minutes overnight. OK - its the capacitor. Opened it up, capacitor looks OK but I change it for a 1000uf/16V (instead of a 100uF because that's all I have in my stash of electrical components). Left overnight and the clock still ran 5 minutes slow.
Clock was working well before removal of the cluster etc for the odo gear so is it somehow connected? I'v cleaned the various connectors etc. Was it the capacitor and the 1000uF is the wrong value and a 100uF (about to order from ebay) will fix it?? Is there anything special (low ESR etc) required for the capacitor spec (probably not)?
Cheers
