Has anyone tried low-rolling resistance tires? Any change in gas mileage?

Does anyone else have tire recommendations? Preferably something sort of cheap... I'm still on a student budget.

I've been using Pirellie P3000 cinturatos with an "85,000 mile warranty". They've never lasted more than about 30,000 miles so far, so I'm done with them. They have probably 5-10K miles left on them before they're bald, but when the car sat for a year, at least one of them has a soft/flat spot or something making it thump with every revolution.
