1990 240 Odd tail light/brake light issue 200 1990

I have a 1990 240 DL wagon. A few nights ago, the left rear tail light went out. I took the bulb out and it looked OK, but I went ahead and replaced it anyway. The tail light started working and all was normal until this morning.

This morning, as I started out the tail lights came on fine until I pressed the brake. When I hit the brake the left rear tail light and brake light do not light up. When I take my foot off the brake, the tail light comes back on. If I turn the tail lights off, the brake light comes on just fine. This tells me the bulb is good.

Any ideas? I'm relatively new to Volvos and this one has me stumped.
