I’ve started restoration on a 63 PV544 with a very badly rusted body. I’m looking for recommendations from those who have done restorations on PVs. I have done body work before and have most of the necessary equipment needed.
Current Condition:
1. Engine starts and idles well. (cleaned carb fuel bowl, new gaskets)
2. All 4 wheel cylinders and brake master cylinder replaced/reconditioned, breaks blead and in good condition.
3. Gas tank cleaned soldered pin holes, POR15 tank sealer, fiberglass resin on outside, sprayed with rubberized undercoat, out of vehicle.
4. Bumpers removed, no dents but chrome flaking.
5. All trim removed (metal clips major cause of rust)
All four fenders removed, tar scraped out, lot of missing metal. Started replacing small pieces of metal.
6. Driver’s side door bottom missing (major metal replacement required)
7. Trunk inner and outer bottom section rotten (will order new panels)
8. Interior needs re-upholstering.
9. Some floor pieces will need new steel.
10. Intention is to remove all glass, doors, fenders, hood, and place chassis on a rotisserie (yet to built).
What have you learned from your restoration or would do differently that would make it easier to accomplish the various tasks?
