My 1988 240DL Wagon (320K miles) dies occasionally and won't restart.
This usually happens idling (in gear) at a stopsign or light. It might be happening just when I take off from the stop.
Engine dies hard, not sputtering to a stop. Trying to start just cranks and cranks....not a sign of life. Then after 30sec to maybe 5min, another starting attempt and it just fires up.
My local shop is going to try replacing some of the inexpensive items like the fuel pump relay.
Any thoughts? Any advice on what to check the next time it dies?
Thanks....Lyle
