AS my car (79 244 B21E 2.1L) has done about 600,000 km the distributor bushings are well worn. It appears that the firing jitter problem cant be fixed since:
(1) cant get new Bosch distributor (obsolete),
(2) cant get it repaired (too old),
(3) cant get one from salvage yard (only got B230 2.3L - not compatible?),
(4) cant be sure about quality of "remanufactured" distributors from USA, if available
Does it matter (eg excess engine wear, excess fuel consumption, reduced power, etc) if the timing fluctuates within + or - 7 degrees about the normal static plus centrifugal advance and vacuum advance? I checked distributor centrifugal advance and vacuum advance curves which are close to those in the Volvo Green Books. So the distributor is working to spec except for jitter. Car runs OK and sounds OK.
