1983 244T with factory intercooler, 252K miles, watercooled turbo is gone (I think). While I still get boost, it sounds like the turbo impeller is touching the housing while spinning. That said, it seemed to spin freely by hand, and I couldn't detect any play in the shaft. FWIW, it seems to be noisiest when cold . . . .

If it is the turbo, what are my options? About how much am I looking at for a new unit? Is it possible to retrofit another type (740, etc.)? Where should I look?

I know I could go with a newer NA engine (or a V8), but not up for an engine swap right now . . .
