Sachs (Boge) Strut Cartridge Gland Nutz? GLAND NUTZ!!!!! 200

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODS,

So, like I finally got off my dead ass and on my dyin' feet. I bought the wee li'l red beastie Kombi 1990 P245 in August 2004. So, today, I'm halfway through the front suspension rebuild.

Yes, it's taken me like 8.5 years to do what used to be done in under six months on the four 1970s 240s I owned.

I bought the Sachs Super Touring (What some call Boge Turbo Gas, yet this ain't made in Deutschland/Europa Boge.

The wee red beastie li'l red wagon had the Boge blue strut cartridges. I forgot the part number walking back to the pad.

I insert the new strut to replace the original blue OEM Boge Made in Deutschlands.

I use the new (sounds OBSCENE) gland nut. I said Gland Nut. SOUNDS OBSCENE!!!

Thread clean inside and out. Some trheadlocker to boot.

I use the giant channel locks to apply some torque. The Gland nut seemed off kilter as it kept moving in ways not concentric with (or to?) the Sachs Super Touring strut cartridge piston.

The gland nut kept spinning out and mis threading with torque.

So, I have a host of Boge-specific 240 Gland Nuts I pulled from Yunkard Volvos. These Gland Nuts are made in Germany as I pulled out the strut cartiridge hoping to find a used replacement at the yunkyard.

The German Boge gland nuts thread in perfectly and take the correct torque so the Sachs Super Touring strut cartridge remains properly retained in the strut housing.

Moral of this story: Retain those old Boge Made in Germany Gland Nuts for use when you buy the Made in Mexico (why Boge calls if Sachs and not Boge) for the U.S. and other markets.

It may be best if you could finagle some real Made in Deutschland (Germany)/Europa Boge struts and shocks.

As of now, the newly reASSembled struts are hanging on the car retains in place by the loosely connected outer tie rods. I also have to replace one or both inner tie rods as I don't want to replace the leaky TRW OEM power steering rack.

So, please keep in mind, you may get crappy Gland Nuts with your made in Mexico Sachs Brand (not made in Germany) Boge struts for your Volvo.

Hope that helps.

Really wordy, huh? Gotta keep in practice.

Comments? Questions? Kitties? Fuzzy kittie? Extra fuzzy kitties?

cheers,

Mac Dud.
