I was replacing the bushings for the drive shaft carrier bearing mount when I noticed that my transmission mount was the consistency of a kitchen sponge. It's an M3 transmission with that round mount. I saw someone had asked if this can be replaced without removing the transmission and the answer was to remove the bolts holding the mount and then press out the old mount and press in the new. However, it seems that I would also have to remove the drive shaft mounting flange at the end of the transmission as well--which is whole 'nother amount of labor. So what is the easiest way to get that old mount off and the new one in?
Also, the new mount has the hole off-center. In which position is that to be oriented?
I also have an M4 transmission in my garage and I'm wondering if it would be easier to put that in instead and never deal with that round mount again (not that I should need to change it again in my lifetime). Is this transmission an easy exchange. Do I need have a different support piece underneath since the round mount piece would be missing?
I'm looking for the easiest method to proceed here. Thanks
