strange fitting on intake manifold 700

Working on the vacuum hoses on my 1988 740T. I have noticed and odd fitting screwed into the Intake manifold, near all the other hoses fittings. nothing is connected to it and it appears to have a small inlet hole, at the end. What does it do, and is something supposed to connect to it? Any clarity would help
