I have a 1989 model Volvo 740SE saloon in basic UK spec. and am anticipating problems arising with the upgraded MOT test requiring seat belt warning lights to be operating. I have been investigating those fittings on the car, which have not worked for some time. I have not yet unbolted the seats, which will probably be my next step. The warning light in the dash does work; by prising off the connector pad on the seat belt stalk and shorting across the exposed connectors it will flash on and off. Am I correct in assuming that this connector is normally closed when the seat belt is not fastened and that the action of inserting the tang of the belt disconnects it somehow?
I can't find the switch which operates when the passenger seat is occupied although there is a black socket with two green wires under this seat which is unconnected. My suspicion is that this should be plugged in to the seat switch, but I can't find the switch. Does anybody have any further information about this which would help?
