Told A/C Connections Frozen at Condenser - Cannot Replace Condenser? 900 1992

Hi All...

Yesterday, a Volvo repair shop fixed a nagging oil leak for us. I asked them also to replace the A/C condenser (and whatever else was needed to get the A/C working). I knew for sure that the condenser was bad as I saw it spewing freon when I tried to refill it.

The mechanic warned me beforehand that the lines to the condenser were sometimes near impossible to remove due to dissimilar metals and age. He called me later in the day to tell me he could not replace the condenser due to the above. He also said the replacement line (can't remember if he said upper or lower)was the main culprit, and the part is no longer available.

I'd love to get the A/C working again. Is this a common problem that has been addressed? Or is it not a problem at all? While this seems to be a very good, independent Volvo shop (and only Volvo), perhaps I need to go to a shop that specializes in A/C?

Oh BTW... our Volvo is a 1992 940GL with about 280,000 miles on it, and the A/C system has been updated. Looks almost new and runs perfectly! We love it!!

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Steve
