Ambient temperature display wiring 900 1991

I fitted one of these to my 91 940. Of course, it wasn't prewired so I had to run the wires myself.
When the headlights are switched off the light on the temp display is on. When the headlights are switched on the light on the display goes off so I can't see it at night.
I followed a wiring diagram I have for a 1994 940 (think these have the black connector - mine has the white connector).
I'm guessing there must be a difference in the wiring between 91 and 94 given the behaviour of this display's light.
Does anyone have the wiring diagram for the 91 940 with the white connector? I'd be most appreciative.
