240 Automatic: the rod below shift button is loose. 200 1983

Greeting folks,
My 240 automatic shifter rod below the shift button has come loose.
The rod right below the shifter button has a pin that keeps the rod locked/attached under the shift indicator cover. The rod has popped
loose and I not wanting to lose the pin if I pull it out and drop it.
Is it fairly easy to take this area apart and reassemble somehow or
should I try to remove and replace the tiny pin that holds the rod
in place in it's present location?

Any advice is appreciate,
