760 Turbo Fuel Pump Relay Problems 700 1990

Car quit running. Cranks and have spark. Noted the Fuel Pump Relay had been hot to touch. Replaced with new relay. Turn key on and no sound from main pump. Followed the FAQ and soldered a jumper from terminal 30 to 87/2 on an old relay, put it in and the main pump worked, car started and ran. Noted on the brickboard, there have been issues with the connectors in the relay board, looked and saw no discoloration or melted plastic. Tried to remove female spade connectors to examine them by releasing them but had no luck at all getting them out of the board, so I cut the wires and re-made the terminals, attached them to a new relay free of the main board. Took the cover off the relay to examine the contacts. When I turn the key on, the first relay (closest to the base) closes, but the main pump does not power up. If I manually close the second relay the main pump activates. I'm at a loss as to the root problem here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
