Copper colored fitting in block? Leak questions. 200 1993

After I took off the exhaust manifold I noticed a round copper colored fitting jutting from the engine block. Should something be connected to this?

Just bought 93 classic wagon for 500$ and I am trying to figure the engine out and stop the leaks. It seems to leak EVERYWHERE. And then I started to read...

Found this site and one of the first things I read about when taking care of these B230F's is the flame trap . I am new to the brand so I cracked a Haynes and there it is. I called the previous owner and asked him if he had ever done anything to the PCV system. He drove the car for 5 years.

"What is a PCV system." he replied. After getting him to open up a little he finally admitted that he had simply quit driving the car because people wanted to call the fire trucks out when he rolled up. The smoke, ah the smoke.

so I pop the hood to find the gunked hardened solid masss of a flame arrestor dangling around in all its cruddy glory. The hose to the oil separator is not connected to anything. So there is a gap.

What I think is this. The trap got blocked, all the seals started leaking and finally the plastic trap gave way and just dangled loose for a few years.

The car runs, no white smoke, no fuel in the oil. It actually runs pretty good but for all the smoking. hahaw.

I scraped crud and degreased around the valve cover then fired up the engine. And sure enough the vc gasket leaks.

So How many gaskets and seals will I have to replace? Replace the oil separator? All of it... I am thinking. If that is the case then where should I start? Which is the most time consuming?

I pulled off the exhaust system today and the only thing left salvageable was the manifold. I have seen the muffler and pipe kits for sale here and there. Anyone used one? What about the catalytic converter... there are about a hundred manufacturers...

Thanks for your time, JT
