I just finished putting a new rotor and brake caliper on the passenger side rear of the 1990 240 wagon. I really only needed to replace the rotor because it was warping when hot. When I went to bleed the caliper the bleed nut broke off when I tried to loosen it, so back to NAPA for a caliper I can bleed. Got that all installed and bled the system.
When I test drove it there was no more shimmy from the warped rotor, so that was good, and the pedal felt nice and solid. I thought things were in ship shape, but after about 10 minutes of driving I started smelling burning brake. When I got into the drive way and walked around, I found that the drivers side rear wheel was hot, and that was where the smell was coming from. It is too late to fiddle with this any more tonight but I am seeking suggestions about how this might have happened for a go at it tomorrow evening.
Could the parking brake be dragging on one side suddenly? I am having a hard time imagining an explanation. Thanks for any ideas.
