House cat loves belly pan

240DL sedan

When changing my oil yesterday, I took down the belly pan forgetting that I don't need to remove it to do an oil change. I could not figure out what all the stringy stuff was attached to the under surface of part of the engine where there is some oil residue.

Then it hit me - our outdoor cat always climbs up under the car. I never knew where he would stay in there, just that he did.

Now I know. He crawls up and over somehow and sleeps in the belly pan. This explains both the stringy stuff (cat hair from his shedding), and his frequent dirty white fur, more so in the winter.

Does anyone have any good ideas on how to keep the cat out of there, for example something I can just leave in the belly pan (tape down somehow) that will deter him?

Any veterinarians who also own Volvo's?

I expect this might generate some humorous responses, but I am curious if there is a reasonable solution. Then again, he has been doing this for the last 12 years and has always gotten out before I start the car. So maybe just live with it.

Thanks!
