I read on the board that new ZF boots can be installed over the inner tie-rods without removing the tie-rod end connection (near the wheel). The inner tie-rod can be unscrewed at the rack and the boot slipped over the ball joint and to the large washer. This would not affect alignment at all since tie-rod and locknut remain untouched. I assume the front wheel will need to be unlocked (ignition key in place) so it can move as the inner tie-rod is unscrewed.
This sounds to good to be true - can anyone confirm that this will work?
Also,FAQ cautions about damaging the rack if it is allowed to move. I don't understand how moving the rack could cause an issue since bumps, etc. basically push the rack around from the front wheel. Can anyone explain what causes damage?
Thanks,
Tom
