Can you bypass the power seat motors? 900

Hi all,
Picked up a very nice 91 945SE (turbo) a month ago. Has been very reliable, and I've just been working on fixing up little things like installing replacement speakers.

I've moved the passenger seat to the full forward position to get at the door pillar covers, to remove them and run wires to the rear doors. And now the seat won't move back! I was getting intermittent activity from the seat back and seat height adjustments, but now nothing.

I broke the t-switch (which controls the forward/back movement) in my frustration, but I have a complete switch system pulled from a 760. I've pulled back the seat bottom so I can get to the connectors for the switches to the motors. Unplugged the old switch set, plugged in the new switch set, but no movement. I've checked the fuse.

I'm thinking the motors themselves have packed it in, but I'm open to other input. And if it is the motors that are dead, is it possible to move the seat manually by removing the gears that are in the seat tracks?

My wife doesn't think it's too funny to be riding in the rear seat, like a cab.
