140 turning indicator light problems 140-160

Hi,

I've had my 1974 144 pretty much to bits and am assembling it now. The turning signal indicator lights in the dash are playing up. With the ignition on, both green arrows are lit. When I push the indicator lever to turn one side or the other, the opposite light flashes on the dash. i.e. if I show to turn left, the correct lights flash outside the car, but on the dash it indicates that I'm turning right.

Any ideas? The PO had the bulb integrity sensor removed and lots of the wires soldered together in bunches. Might that be a problem?

Regards
