installing rear shoes for Ebrake 900

I am installing new shoes on the rear of my 960.
I have removed the wheel/tire and am looking at the rear disk with the
brake caliper on it. Are the shoes hiding behind the disk?
It seems very likely because there is no other place for it.

This is new to me with the shoes hiding behind the disk.
Any 'best practices' I should keep in mind?

Thanks very much,
Jim Lee
