Driver's seat switch appears dead, pesky brake light; related? 900 1994

I have two electrical problems which appeared at about the same time. I'm asking two questions on this thread -
1. Are the problems possibly related? that is, they are due to the same root cause, like a faulty wiring harness.
2. I'm looking for recommended troubleshooting advice or possible solutions.

A. my first problem is that my driver's electric seat appears to be dead. I don't know if I did something to the motors when I tried to move it when the back seat was folded forward and jammed full of cargo, or maybe I broke the switch or maybe something just died. Car has 184K miles on it. According to the owners manual, the fuse that controls the seat has other circuits on it too, and those accessories are working properly. It looks to me like the wire harness is properly connected.
B. the second problem is that my driver's side brake light does not work. I've replaced the bulb repeatedly. the bulbs don't seem to burn out, but i get the indicator light on the dash board. Any suggestions? Tweaking the electrical contacts does not appear to have made a difference.

Thanks, in advance, for any advice you can provide.
