starting problems and cut out. 1991 Volvo 240 200 1991

I recently bought a volvo 240 from a friend of mine. I am planning a road trip and it was the best car around. I am new to volvo so not sure how to go about problem solving. Before I bought the car it had some starting issues, my friend looked into it and decided that it was the computer that was the problem. He bought a new computer and put it in and the car was running fine. I finished up registration yesterday, and drove the car home it ran fine with out any issues and ran fine all of yesterday. Today went to start it and it turned over but would not catch. Looked through all the wiring under the hood and cleaned up the terminals and conecters, checked the leads from the coil to the switcher, and the plugs. Checked the fuel leads I could see checked what I think was the fuel pump. Once that was done, disconnected the computer ans cleaned the terminals a bit. Once I plugged it back in it started and ran for a bit and hen cut out violently. Checked it all again. Disconnected and reconnected the computer and it started. Then tried it a few times and it all worked fine. Put the computer back on its mount and closed everything up started it it ran for a bit the spluttered out.stride again same thing and then back to not catching..... I'm stumped and new to volvo so not sure what to. Check next. Any ideas or diagnosis would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
