Hoping for comments / guidance on installing new bearings to rear axles. I have a shop manual and it is mildly helpful, but I welcome any words from those of you who have done this work. For example, the book seems to say to seat the bearing outer race against the inside oil seal, then as part of adjusting the end play to pull it back out and "adjust the play". Fine, but it appears then that the only thing maintaining the end play is friction between the bearing race and the axle housing--is this good enough?

More generally: I cannot find out how to navigate this Forum to search for this subject, which I suspect has already been covered. Using "Search" sends my back to comments on all years of cars, which I don't want, and I cannot find any kind of an index by year or subject that I can access. At present I can only ready every submittal, but I only get one page worth--the current one--and I can't find other earlier pages. Need help desperately!
