flame trap procedure S90-V90 1998

A Volvo service sheet I found online regarding the flame trap on the 960 says to remove the flame trap, then "Remove oil filler cap. Use an airline to blow through hoses down to crankcase ventilation."

I'm not entirely sure what "through hoses down to crankcase ventilation" means. And why remove the oil filler cap?
