Stuck wagon seatback 700

A year or so ago my son borrowed the wagon to move somebody and broke the seat back. The pull handle on the back of the wider (2/3) portion was broken off and pulling on what remained didn't work to release the back so it could fold down.

Something was screwed inside the seat back I guess. The latch at the top was closed but not latched, so the seat wasn't even safe for a passenger. I spent hours researching here how to fix this but got even more confused. It looks like there is something in the FAQ, but I can't follow it. Today I attacked the problem again because soon I'll be picking up a new TV and need the seat down. The other (1/3) seat back was okay, so I studied the lower latch to see how it could be released independent of the linkage. Well, there's a plastic covered knobbie thing that you can pull back that will release the latch. (There's actually another thread about this on a 200 here Wagon seatback is stuck, any tips? but that's a 200 and it looks like the latch is upside down from mine.) Anyway, I made a hook I could stick down behind the lower latch and pull the plastic covered knobbie thing out of the way so the latch would open when I pulled the seat back forward.

This picture shows the seat back in the down position and the other seat back removed.

This is what the latch looks like when open.

Now that the stuck seat back is down, I'll maybe remove it and figure out how to get at the broken handle and linkage to fix it.
