Hi All,
My '93 940 Rex Regina has 228,000 on the clock and started sounding really loud about two months ago.
The rear muffler was shot so, finally had a new one installed from the cat back.
Unfortunately, the noise continued and a trip back to the service shop produced no results and a new shop took a crack at it also to no avail.
What I found was that sometime in it's life, the first cylinder's exhaust manifold stud was broken off and missing.
The gasket shows signs of deterioration.
This problem was missed by both shops recent bookings for diagnosis and may have been caused by the first shop some years prior, when a new downpipe was replaced. . .
My fear is of a bad valve causing the vibration that can be felt into the steering wheel while driving and also in neutral and revving the engine it sounds bad and getting worse.
Not too long ago we had a problem with the overdrive solenoid replacement where a shop let dirt into the hydraulics and that was fixed by the dealers old codger who flushed out the system and the car ran smooth as silk.
Any comments appreciated- it's not really my car (yes it is) as I gave it to my girlfriend of 25 years living together, some time ago. . . .
T.I.A
and regards to all,
Morris the Cat
