Hi everyone, my name is Steve, I am new here.
I am hoping someone might have some experience with the issue I am having. I recently purchased a '68 Volvo 142 that is no longer in the CA DMV system and the owner didn't have a title. I have a 'request for duplicate title' and a bill of sale. I had a VIN Inspector come out to verify the car and he was cool with everything but he told me that the DMV might throw a fit about the year of the car and how I have no solid proof of it being a 1968. He said the best way to verify the year of the car is to provide the chassis number.
Everything I have found on the internet says that the chassis number is stamped on the passenger door pillar above the top door hinge. No luck, there is nothing there. Has anyone experienced something like this before?
Right now to justify the car's year the best I can do is reference a plate on the car's firewall which lists the vehicle type and the features on it. There is a reference number for the B18 engine it has and also the S code, S-5373 which is the brown leather only offered for 1968 Volvo models. The front grille is also the one from earlier 142 models. I don't know if the DMV would accept those things as proof though.
Any help would be much appreciated.
