ATF Change - Drain vs. Flush 700 1986

ATF: I understand flush is better than drain. But when I ask around at shops they are simply draining pan and refilling what was drained. They think this is sufficient.

How much ATF is changed in a drain method? Is it really the end of the world using this method to "replace" ATF? This method seems to be the tradition on these older cars. New cars get flush treatment but not 80's cars...

Unfortunately, due to family constraints, I am not in a good situation to do a flush, as it seems a helper would make it much easier.
