Bail me out again, Brickboarders.
Installed a new in-tank pump today. It went well; no problems... or so I thought.
I fired up the car and drove it down to the Chevron to fill up. I noticed (as mentioned in my other recent post) that the pump seemed fairly loud. I attributed that to the fact that I had no pump before, and that is just how it must sound.
The car drove well. I didn't notice any real improvement with the new pump, but other than a somewhat rough cold start idle and rough idle when the weather is hot or the tank low the car was pretty asymptomatic anyway. The pump was confirmed dead through Art's "In the Tank" diagnostic.
So I drive it perhaps for ten minutes, go back to my father-in-law's place, and park it for a few hours.
When I come out this evening and turn the car on, it fires right up, runs for perhaps four seconds, and dies of what sounds like fuel exhaustion. I can hear that transfer pump a-runnin' back there, but the engine just goes BRUM-rum-rum-rumma-rum-rum stop. Then I do the exact same thing four more times with the same results.
I was too tired and it was too cold and dark to do much tonight and I was/am kind of stumped, not to mention discouraged. I entertained the idea that the transfer pump was wired backwards and sucking fuel OUT of the fuel line, but beyond that I have had no good ideas.
Please oh please give me something to work with!
Thanks,
Tony
