A/C Lead Wire Rubbed Through - Solved 900

Had some curios electrical anomalies over the past few weeks that led to an interesting find under the hood this evening. It started with the blower motor reducing speed on idle as if electrical current was too low, and today at 55mph it felt like all 4 cylinders dropped when the compressor clutch engaged. By the time I got home, the compressor was not engaging at all.

On close inspection, I discovered that the lead wire to the compressor rubbed through on one of the pipes going to the compressor. 6 or 7 years ago I replaced the compressor and apparently had the hair-brained idea of running the lead wire underneath the pipe. My thinking then was probably to take up slack in the wire, so it wouldn't rub through somewhere else.

Anyway, problem solved and wire repaired. I sure wish all my Volvo fixes were that easy!

Word to the wise, check to be sure your lead wire doesn't have any opportunities to rub through unless you want to get caught without a/c unexpectedly.
