Summary of Fix - Engine light short makes door chime always on 700 1986

Another problem, it must be the season, but this time problem fixed. Thanks to BB, the solution was rather easy.

Opened my hood and didn't start car, then noticed door chime was going and should've stopped.

This was fuse 5 that includes radio and many of interior lights, like glove box, overhead lights, and engine light. Fuse replacement blew instantly. There was a good suggestion to jump this fuse with a test light and turn off everything connected to it, and then turn on each item to see what it turns off the light; the light will be on until then.

But there were a couple posts about the engine light circuit shorting out. Since I couldn't easily rig a jumper light (without procuring parts) that would fit the fuse connections, I looked straight here. Voila! Here is a photo I found in Brickpix from Thom demonstrating:

That was it! I had taped up this wire a few years ago, it was seriously frayed, with disintegrated insulation. Used metal butt connectors, like for appliances to connect new wire.

What a relief not to go tracing all the wires for a possible short!
