I have an AW72 behind my B234f (car is all stock at this point)in my 1990 745gle. The car (with exception of the motor) has 260k on her. Probably not the best maintained Volvo, but I've seen a lot worse. The engine was replaced around 220k and was said to have approx. 125k on it. I am planning to go through the car completely over the next year or so, with ultimate plans of a 16vturbo and getrag or t5 tranny. I purchased the car from my father to commute 45 miles each way to work 6 days a week. When i started driving the car in late September, I noticed that on cold mornings,(what i think is the tranny making this noise), I could hear what sounded like gears whizzing and spinning(high pitch) as i accelerated and also decelerated. I checked the tranny fluid level and was overfilled about a 1/2 qt. and was also not the best color/clarity. I used the Lucas oil quick fix, draining off about a quart and a half or so and added 1 qt. of the Lucas. After driving for about a full day, the whizzing noises seemed to go away. I recently checked my trans. fluid level (mid Dec.) and it was about a quart low, so I added 1 more qt. of the Lucas. The last few days have been exceptionally cold and the noise is back. I am getting ready to flush the tranny using the upper trans. cooler line method that I've read about and IPD sells a hose for. Just checked the fluid level this morn. and was fine, but color/clarity were terrible. I just wanted to ask some of you more experienced folks what you thought about it? Wanted to make sure it couldn't be something else in the vicinity of the tranny.? Thanks in advance.
