Good Day All,
My 1990 740 GL Wagon has been running rough for a while. It was laid up for a few months, but I finally gave up on my own abilities and took it into the shop. There, they replaced the radio relay, fuel pump relay, and crank sensor. When they took it out for a test drive they never exceeded 30 mph because they said it needed new ball joints and was unsafe to drive. Ergo, they never got to the hesitation on acceleration or the hard start.
Fast forward to today. Ball joints have been replaced. Still suffering from hard start (cold or hot, a little better hot), and hesitation in the 2000-3000 rpm range. I thought it might have been clogged fuel injectors due to lay-up, so I ran a tank of high test with a bottle of Techron through it. Things seemed to get better, but still some hesitation. My next step was to replace the coil, which was cheap and easy. (Rex/Regina fuel system).
Last night it cut completely out on me at highway speed. The Tach immediately dropped to zero, it did not coast down with the engine. I was able to get it restarted and get it home, but it cut completely out on me two more times on the way home, both with the tach just dropping to zero.
Does anyone have any ideas where to start?
Thanks in advance!
Scott
