auto shift release 200

93 240 Wagon

My shifter first would refuse to shift out of park until i engaged the black button. Then the black button disintegrated....so now i have the two black plastic covers removed and have to squeeze the black disc up next tot he shifter shaft, in order to release. Is there any way to remove this plastic piece and live free of these annoying gizmos ?
