Passenger Side Motor Mount Procedure 200

So, last night I swapped out a typically worn passenger side motor mount. It was nasty, drooping, and oil soaked. I've looked at it and wanted to swap it for months, and every single trip it was on my mind. Heck, I even had a new mount, waiting for install, but I was being lazy.

I jacked up the car and looked at all the angles. "Do I use a swivel here? Perhaps a wobble extension? Hmmmm....."

I absolutely despise fighting with a car to repair it, and often opt to remove more than I need to in order to make room for comfortable working.

Here is how I tackled the job.

1 - Disconnect negative battery lead
2- Slack off the alternator/water pump belts. Remove alternator adjustment arm fixing bolt
3 - Disconnect alternator wiring
4 - Jack the car up and secure it on stands
5 - Remove alternator ground strap
6 - Slip alternator belts off the pulley and remove alternator pivot bolt
7 - Remove alternator from below. You will likely have to get the air intake preheat hose and clamp out of the way in order to remove the alternator.
8 - Remove alternator bracket. A perfect time to swap out the accessory bushings is now.
9 - Jack up the engine from below the oil pan, using something to cushion the pan. I used a folded bicycle inner tube. A piece of wood with a hole cut in it would do well, too. You are trying to keep all the weight from resting on the drain plug, which can damage the pan. Figure out a way to distribute it.
10 - With the mount unloaded, remove the lower nut that secures the mount to the subframe bracket.
11 - Remove the bolts that secure the upper bracket to the engine block.
12 - Remove mount and upper bracket from the car. Renew the mount and reverse this procedure. You may need to play with the height of the engine in order to get the upper bracket holes to line up.

BE SURE NOT TO FORGET - one of the upper bracket bolts must be in the bracket as you install the mount! You will see which one as you go through the steps.

I found that the job went very smoothly, and required only normal hand tools to perform. No swivels, wobble extensions, or tiring hand contortions were called for.
