Parts is parts, right? 200

A couple weeks ago I ordered a basket of parts that included a pre-pump, bung nut, o-ring and filter sock from a eEuroparts. I have ordered from them numerous times without issue, but when I started looking through the box this time I noticed something strange.

You see, when I looked for a pre-pump, I looked for a trusted name brand. I felt confident clicking into my basket an AC Delco pump, as I am told the the brand was spec'd as factory parts. The feeling you get when installing OE parts is that of pride. Pride in knowing you are properly looking after your steed, and anticipation of that sensation left imbedded in my mind the brand of pump I should be seeing emerge from the box. I paid more than than the other pumps I passed over in search of one that was stamped with a trusted name.

Box arrives. I open the box. I see no AC Delco box. I find the pump they sent me and it's in a box marked with another name. The pump is marked with the same name, so I look for my invoice which appears to be left on the warehouse floor somewhere and not included in my shipment.

Online I see my order invoice and the price listed for the SKU is $60. I click the link provided for the pump description page. It takes me to the pump I received, and it is almost $30 less than the Delco pump that was ordered! Apparently the inventory was changed while my order was being processed and no one caught the discrepancy prior to shipping. That, or I could assume that the exclusion of a paper invoice was in fact on purpose, in hopes of me being so overwhelmed with the box of new parts that I simply don't notice the error.

Now in all fairness I will admit that upon calling their service number, the matter was quickly resolved. I wanted to use the difference as store credit and get a couple hatch struts, but the rep said they couldn't do that. The money had to be refunded. Fair enough, I suppose. While it doesn't resolve the matter of the missing Delco pump, I wasn't about to get into an "I need this part swapped out for the one I ordered" discussion with the young man. I got the feeling that would really throw the plane into a tailspin, if you know what I mean.

I installed the pump this weekend, and it works fine. I still wish the other pump was in there, but feel I should show good faith in the parts that were used so as to ward off any bad karma.

I swear it helps.

Cheers,

Aaron
