Air Conditioner 200 1986

Decided to check out A/C today in anticipation of hot Alabama weather, and alas, no workee.

The Compressor is fairly new, R134 converted.

Clutch was not engaging.

Bypassed wiring and connected to power and the clutch engaged and the A/C cooled (as much as a 1986 wagon can cool).

What are my next steps to isolate the problem? Sounds like a switch to me but of course this old volvo does not have a simple swich, it has one of those rotating knob thermostat things.

Any help is appreciated.
