1992 745 regina fuel pump question 700

I want to replace the fuel pump with just the pump and not the whole assembly. I currently have a pump on there that was replaced by previous owner who did not know jack. I suspect he used the wrong pump because I had to add a universal check valve to the system to get the car to start correctly ( would not hold residual psi). Worked great but now the pump is failing, Probably used an Airtex pump or similar. The gas gauge sender had to be twisted and aligned for the gauge to work. I would like to know what pump to use that has the check valve built in like the original AC pumps for the Regina`s. Has anyone done this with good lasting results without paying the high price for the whole assembly. I read somewhere, maybe turbobricks that there is a high performance Walbro pump that can be bought off E-bay but It does not say it has a check valve built in. Thanks for any and all help. Larry
