Last weekend I knocked out the races in the front hubs on my 91 240. Being in a hurry, I didn't take the time to notice their exact position in the hub. Finally yesterday I found the time to finish the job. When I attempted to hammer the inner race into the hub using a slightly ground down old race, it stopped approximately 0.25" from the lip. Is this the correct position? There doesn't seem to be any taper that would restrict the inner race from being flush with this lip.
You would think there would at least be a detente that would indicate where they were suppose to seat if this was the case.
Last week I dropped off the rotors along with the hub at the machine shop where I have all my engine work done. I asked them to finish pressing in the race as well refinish the rotors. Unfortunately I didn't check the hub when I picked it up Friday. Only last night did I notice that the inner race was in the same position.
I plan on taking both hubs back to the machine shop tomorrow. If there was a burr or something that prevented the race from properly seating, at least they would be able to remove the new inner race and reposition it without damaging it.
Although I trust that they would be able to figure this out, it would be nice to know if the inner race is suppose to be flush with this ridge.
