'95 940 230FD w/EGR ...Catalytic Converter ?? 900 1995

Hi Brickboarders,

My '95 940 is just over 300K kms and still runs very well. At almost 20 years, I have an opportunity to replace the original catalytic converter as my exhaust mufflers are to be replaced on warranty from the last OE muffler I got at the dealer.

The questions have to do with replacing the CAT with a Magnaflow 23945 that sells for $130. incl. taxes and shipping.

...jumping to the endpoint - Has anyone had experience or can clarify what a 'standard' after market CAT will do if used on a '95 940 230FD with EGR?

Similar to Maganflow is Walker's 15633 @ $210. The alternate is FCPs DEC VO3526 which would cost me $250. incl. currency exchange and taxes. FCP offers 2 CATS for the 940 - w/EGR AND wo/EGR and insists they are not interchangeable.

The only obvious physical difference is length - Magnaflow is 26.9", Walker's is 27.1". FCPs at 28.75" - and the original on the car is also slightly longer at almost 29". Both have a front O2 sensor socket.

Reasearch with Magnaflow and Walker's Tech Support Desk suggest that the only one they each supply is good for both w/EGR and wo/EGR engines. While the short length can easily be fixed, I cannot get over the price difference. Neither Magnaflow or Walker have clear published documentation stating interchangeability for EGR or non-EGR engines.

There must be a product difference in the CAT's core ceramic or emission and possibly engine performance?

Has anyone had experience or can clarify what either Magnaflow or Walker's CATs will do if used on a '95 940 230FD with EGR?

Thanks, AndreD
