metallic ping sound - 940 900

I was at a stop sign and heard a sound that went like this:

ping - and a -ping - and a -ping

Very faint. Almost like metal cooling but not really the ticking sound of contracting metal.

I can't think of anything that would have such a large span of silence between pings. I also heard it later.


It is as if you were to tap your foot to the beat of the song "Yesterday" (Beatles).

I always get worried when I here a new sound.
It almost like a fan blade striking something but that would be so much faster.

Any ideas?
