I've scoured the search function and FAQ for the answer to my AC issues with no certain answer. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I've owned the car over a year now and the AC has always worked fine. As the weather has turned hotter here in the South this summer I've been using my AC each day, mostly only on my 7 mile commute home from work. The other day it just didn't work. The day before it worked fine and when I say fine I mean it blew ice cold on a 95 degree day. It worked great.
Here is what it's doing:
AC blows somewhat cooler than ambient temp but not by much.
Blower works fine.
AC Compressor cycles on/off
Lower AC hose at fire wall gets super cold
Heater Control Valve seems to work. Luke cold when set all the way left and hot when all the way right. I removed the panel on the passenger side and can see the arm from the heater control knob moving the valve. I even tried clamping both heater hoses with vice grips to see if stopping the engine coolant flow would make a difference but it didn't change a thing.
Could it be a freon or pressure/leak issue with the system actually getting cold?
The heater control valve does change the temp but could it not be sealing all the way when pushed the left(cold side)?
Could the orifice tube be clogged? But why all of the sudden, there was no indication that it was going out.
I did see the FAQ on the climate control unit connection/soldering issue. An electrical issue seems more likely in this case since it was such a sudden change. I'm sure i could get unit out and inspect it if needed.
Any help would great, I really hate taking my car to the shop.
Thank you,
Justin
