Going down freeway in our '89 brick, using cruise control set at 70mph. Wife in car. There’s a ‘THUD!! Suddenly the front window was covered in white/grey feathers. (This all happens in an instant.) Wife yells, I did not hit brakes as I didn’t know at that moment if there might have been a car behind us, luckily though there wasn’t.
There’s a “splat” mark lower center of windshield, I quickly look back in the rear view mirror and a bundle of whitish feathers is laying in the road. Scratch a pigeon! My main concern? That the windshield did not crack or break, but I noticed a little later after we got off freeway the bird took out the end tip of the drivers side windshield wiper.
So the bird cost me a $14 (Bosch) wiper replacement. First (known) time I ever hit a bird while driving, hopefully the last. Took the brick soon after thru a car wash. All signs of the “splatted” bird gone. BTW im sure there were actually 2 birds, one made it, one didnt.
Other than that, we had a nice day.
