Is there a secret to oil filter tightening? 200

Hi All:
Car is a 1990 240 that we have owned for 2 yrs. It now has 41,000 miles. I bought a box of 10 Mann filters. I have changed the oil about every 4000 miles with regular mineral oil to achieve some cleaning.
Anyway, one oil change I tightened the filter as per the diagram on the filter--contact, then 3/4 turn. Well that leaked. I replaced that filter. The last time was perfect, no leaks/drips. This time (2 weeks ago), I tightened hand tight to what felt snug, probably a bit over 1/3. A couple of days later, I noticed oil drops on the garage floor which triggered me to look and oil was covering the motor mount. So, I handtightened to over a 1/2. (I mark the filters with a line on the top and tighten as per a clock--if contact lands on 3 o'clock, I tightened to whatever I'm shooting for like 9 o'clock) There are a few drops on the garage floor, and I can see a drop on the end of the filter using a mirror. Nothing on the motor mount.
I cannot seem to get this right. I did find an old entry from Ken C about this very topic. He discovered leaks with overtightening. I think I should shoot for 1/2 turn after contact. I'm debating whether to remove this one.
Any insight is appreciated. Thanks.
