Starter or ignition switch ? 1990 740 700

1990 740 WITH REGINA IGNITION SYSTEM

i STARTED MY CAR AND IT MADE A LOUD SQUEELING ALMOST GRINDING NOISE,
POPPED THE HOOD BUT COULDN'T TRACE THE NOISE.
i TURNED THE IGNITION OFF BUT THE CAR KEPT CRANKING BY ITSELF.
tRIED TURNING KEY ON AND OFF BUT THE STARTER KEPT GOING.

Quickly grabbed my tools and disconnected the neg battery cable, let it cool down a few minutes, reconnected the neg cable ...nothing.

Turned the key and nothing duh, turned the key on and off a few times and it fired up. Got home and it started again no problem.

I replaced the starter last month, is it the starter or the ignition switch ?
