Dual filament bulbs on Front markers 200 1989

First time since I owned the car (1988) I had a front Directional bulb burn out. I got my monies worth out of that bulb.
I just discovered that although there is an amber driving light and a separate amber Directional to take care of their respective functions, they are both Dual filament bulbs. I wonder why.
