M46 gearbox 700

Hi,

I've just bought a M46 which I'm told came out of a 740. The bellhousing has a cutout on the top, right side which doesn't exist on the M45s I have from a 240. It looks a bit like a big semicircle with smaller ones on either side. Can someone tell me what it's for?
