fuel gauge 200 1992

I just completed installing new fuel pumps (both) due to failure. my fuel gauge would kinda stick at 1/2 than drop suddanly to empty. so I decided to also replace the sending unit while doing the in-tank pump. NOW the fuel gauge only goes up to 1/2 and the tank is full! has anybody had this happen? any sugestions?
